It is so unfortunate to say that most people who have gum disease are not aware about their gum condition. This is due to the fact that gum disease does not hurt until it reaches the advanced stage. Even if the gums are already infected, gum disease can still be painless. Watching our for the possible warning signs of gum disease is a good start to prevent it from developing. Dental problems such as gums that are tender, bleeding, swollen gums, persistent bad breath, bad taste in the mouth, receding gums and loose teeth are the possible indicators that the presence of gum disease is setting in. Learn the factors that can greatly increase the risk for the development of periodontal disease: tobacco smoking and use, diabetes and other systemic diseases, certain medications, crooked teeth, defective fillings, pregnancy or oral contraceptives. Luckily, gum disease is preventable in nature. Better practice of proper flossing, brushing, proper diet and regular dental cleanings promote a lifetime healthy smiles.
